From conceptual design to polished look frames this is where we fire up the engine that will lead the way. You have a goal to achieve, and that goal needs to feel, needs to look a certain way. It needs to resonate with your audience. Finding and shaping the visual voice to meet these needs is at the heart of Visual Development.

What do all these words mean?
Visual Development
VFX Supervision
My background is deeply rooted in practical effects and my first inclination is always“what can I shoot to make this work”. Having spent many years in miniature and in-camera fx I subscribe to”nothing is more real than real”. Having extensive experience in all facets of digital effects production, be it 2D compositing or complex 3D work, allows me to meet the needs of clients with confidence and efficiency regardless of the methodology. I work hard to provide peace of mind to the client so the process doesn’t feel like a black box.
My on-set experience is extensive and includes hdr capture, lidar scanning and texture reference photography. As someone with deep 3D and 2D hands on experience, I approach every shoot like I’m doing the work myself, insuring that at the end of the day I leave with what I need to be successful.
2nd Unit Direction
As an experienced Director and member of the DGA,I love opportunities to contribute behind camera.
As a Visual Effect Supervisor I am always looking at ways to get as much in camera as possible. A large part of this is shooting plates and elements. From crowd tiles to pyro to whatever is needed to get to the finish line.
Shot execution
I absolutely love working on shots. To this day putting on a pair of headphones and lighting a shot, doing a matte painting or working on character animation remains as artistically fulfilling today as it did 20 plus years ago when I made the full transition to the digital side of the fence.
I am highly proficient in most 3d applications and render engines and use Nuke as my primary compositing software. If you’d like to learn more about my experience please visit the “about me” section.
